La pesca alle aragoste lungo il litorale di Alghero più che un’attività lavorativa una vera e propria tradizione che vanta radici molto antiche. I pescatori, a bordo di spagnolette e gozzi armati a vela latina, uscivano per mare con le loro reti o con le nasse di giunco per catturare i pregiati crostacei e sistemarli in appositi vivai ricavati all’interno delle imbarcazioni realizzate dai mastri d’ascia algheresi. Oggi le usanze non sono cambiate di molto, se non per il numero di pescatori impegnati in questa attività, che nel dopoguerra erano 2.000 ed oggi sono ridotti ad un paio di centinaia, e per il materiale delle reti impiegate, che oggi vengono intrecciate, sempre rigorosamente a mano, con ilnaylon, mentre un tempo si utilizzava il cotone. Ciò che, invece, è rimasta totalmente invariata è la qualità sopraffina delle aragoste algheresi, che oggi come un tempo, rappresentano un vero e proprio simbolo della tradizione gastronomica locale.
